Our University¡¯s Delegation Succeeded in Visiting Seven American Partner Universities

Vice president Li Zhengxi concluded a cooperative agreement with Central University of Michigan

 

 

In order to react to the influences caused by international financial crisis toward international cooperation and exchange, further extend the content and method of international cooperation, Vice president Li Zhengxi, together with our university¡¯s delegation visited California State Polytechnic University Pomona, Georgia Southern Polytechnic State University, East Tennessee State University, Central Michigan University, Lawrence Technological University, Illinois College of Technology and Valparaiso University from April 7 to April 16. Dean of Center of International Cooperation and Exchanges and dean of College of Humanities and Law, prof. Guo Tao, deputy director of the Office of Student Affairs, Sun Zongrui and Wei Jinqiang, from Office of Academic Affairs also visited those schools.


At California State Polytechnic University Pomona, the delegation discussed with the new dean, Doctor Marten L. denBoer and the director of International department, Shereen. They reached an agreement on straightening out the working mechanism, balancing the number of exchange students and expanding cooperation projects. The two sides also discussed the document of the new cooperation agreement, the cooperation projects, and prepared the mutual recognition of credits on the "2 +2" undergraduate project.


At SPSU, delegation had a talk with the vice president and director of International Department DR.BENNETT. They also held a forum with some deans, talking about the meaning of the project of exchange students, the students¡¯ living conditions, MBA students¡¯ visiting to our university in summer vacation, students¡¯ replacement of TOFEL marks. During the lunch, the delegation also met with our university¡¯s students who are studying there, hoping that they could work hard, strengthen the communication and improve practical ability. Our university¡¯s students who are studying there had an outstanding achievement. In 2008, five graduates were admitted by University of Chicago, Columbia University and Polk University as post graduates. In the same year, among the seven excellent graduates, there were two coming from our university¡¯s ¡°2+2¡± program students.


At ETSU, the delegation talked with the vice president and the leaders of International Department, College of Graduate and College of Education. They reached an agreement on our university¡¯s English faculties going for short-term training, starting the recognition of credits on accounting cooperative education project and helping build Chinese major at ETSU. In the aspect of establishing the Chinese major at ETSU, the students can study at his own university in the first two years, our university can send faculties to teach. In the last two years, the students can study at our university. Similarly, the students of English major of our university can also study at ETSU in the last two years. And the students only need to pay the tuition fee of their own university.


At the Central Michigan University, the delegation met with the new vice president E.Wallance and the new director of International Department Mark Poindexter and some deans, put the incident of our university¡¯s teachers¡¯ further study and ¡°3+2¡±project into effect. In order to speed up the process of the project of ¡°3+2¡±of computer science major, our university invited the teachers at CMU to teach two or more computer science major courses in our school every year.


At LTU, the delegation talked with the dean of the College of Technology, Shetty, director of the Office of Academic Affairs, Maria joao vaz. They established the mechanism of teachers of academic exchange. In the autumn of 2009, we are going to send teachers there as visiting scholars; send the professional teachers of architecture major, electrical major and mechanical major to attend in the advanced studies, and further discuss the incidents of cultivating students in cooperation. The two sides also exchanged with each other on ¡°3+2¡±mode and cooperative study on architecture.


At ICT, the delegation had a talk with the president assistant and Chinese Professional Homas T.Y Wong, reaching an agreement on cooperative frame with the director of the Office of Academic Affairs. In the mean time of developing the teacher¡¯s exchange, the both sides will start to prepare for the project of student exchange and cultivating the students in cooperation. In autumn, we are going to send the teachers of civil engineering major and electrical engineering major to further study and discuss about cultivating doctors together.


At Valparaiso University, the delegation met the vice president and the dean of the College of Graduate. They concluded an agreement on sending teachers to further study and ¡°3+2¡± model and so on. In the second half of 2009, we are going to send the teachers of computer science major to further study in the Valparaiso University and start the project of post graduate ¡°3+2¡±of informative technology and management and the recognition of the credits.


During the visit to America, the delegation introduced the preparatory work of the ¡°Symposium of the internationalized and globalized education to those universities, they also sent the invitation to the relevant people and received 20 Apple laptops given by Lai Xiufeng, the artistic director of the O Bernard Lee advertising company. Through the visit to the USA, our university strengthened the relationships with those universities, solved the problems in the student exchange project. And the visit will further stimulate the extension of our university¡¯s international cooperation and exchanges.
