College of sciences offers the following three undergraduate programs: Information and Computer Science, Statistics, and Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and a Master¨s program: Applied Mathematics, to over 600 full-time students. The college has 60 teaching and administrative staff, including 10 professors, 23 associate professors, of whom 13 hold doctoral degrees. Besides its own tasks of teaching and training the undergraduate students in the programs, the college also undertakes the teaching of basic courses of mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, physics, chemistry, physical education of the whole university.
The college has now the following three professional teaching departments: Department of Statistics , Department of Information and Computer Science , and Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics ,the following three departments of basic sciences : department of Theoretical Chemistry ,and Department of Physical Education , and an Administration Center of Sports Equipment and facilities . The college has attached great importance to scientific research.
It has undertaken a variety of research projects, such as the projects sponsored by the National Natural Sciences Funds, projects of Beijing Municipal Natural Sciences Funds, projects of Special Funds for Beijing Talents, projects of the National Sciences ＾973￣, and others, and has a dozen teaching materials published. Having outstanding advantages in the instruction of basic courses, the college has attained remarkable achievements in its instruction. As a result of elaborate teaching efforts, a considerable number of students have obtained excellent achievements in math contest, and sports contests held annually in Beijing .By the way, the college is the Chairman-unit of the National College Students Baseball and Softball Associations.
Information and Computing Science
Based on information technology and computing science, this program of science aims to train high-level application-oriented and well-trained professionals with excellent mathematical accomplishments and a mathematically-thinking ability, and a good mastery of basic theory, methods and skills of information technology and computing science, who will be able to solve practical problems encountered in information industry, science and engineering computation .The graduates of the program will be able to engage in information processing ,network management ,computer theory study , software development and others in scientific and technological organizations, education and government departments, and information industry . This program has two disciplines: information security technology and scientific computation.
Statistics
The program aims to train high-level professionals with solid theoretical knowledge of modern statistics, modern statistical methods, and a wide range of knowledge of economics ,management and finance ,who will be able to engage in statistical analysis and forecast , market survey and consultation, or securities and futures trading , and other activities.
Applied Mathematics
This is a cross-disciplinary program composed of different branches of mathematics, a good mathematically-thinking ability, a good mastery of basic mathematical theory and methods, and a good ability of solving practical problems on computers with the mathematical knowledge they will have learned. The graduates of the program will be expected to engage in research and teaching in scientific and technological organizations , educational and economic departments , or practical application of mathematics ,research & development ,and management in production ,operation and management organizations ,The program has the following two disciplines: financial mathematics ,differential equation ,operations research and optimization.
