NCUT is one of the higher education institutions in China that are authorized by the former State Education Commission to enroll foreign students after 1978, having been enrolling foreign student since 1982. Over the past decade, NCUT has recruited about 15-20 foreign students each year from Japan, Korea, Canada, Romania, Kazakhstan, The USA, Israel and others. In addition, NCUT offers summer cultural-tour courses for foreign students who mainly come from the US and Canadian universities with which NCUT has established inter-collegial relations.

The Chinese Language Training Center (CLTC) is the administrative body of NCUT¡¯s Chinese language instruction for foreign students, and is responsible for the language instruction and teaching administration. The Center has always centered its training on the students and can adjust the curriculum, teaching materials, method and schedule according to students¡¯ language standard and requirements, thus achieving remarkable results in its instruction.

The Center provides instruction in listening, speaking (including pronunciation), reading, and writing. Students attend about 25 hours of classes each week that include the option of 5 to 8 hours of elective classes. One of the goals of all classes is to help students gain the skills and confidence they need to pass the Chinese Proficiency Test and become successful students at Chinese universities.
