THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING INTRODUCTION

The College of Engineering is the biggest college in North China University of Technology,

And offers the following teaching departments: automation, mechanical engineering and automation, computer science and technology ,electronic information engineering, and industrial design. The total number of full-time students is over 2500.

The College of Engineering, which was formed from the former Departments of Engineering in 1985,has a strong qualified teaching staff force, including 8 professors, 42 vise professors .They have a perfect master of professional and mental qualifications, strive for further greater progress and academic excellence.

Actively engaged in the education reform, College of Engineering, has always attached great importance to the training of its students in their creative abilities, self-study abilities of having hands-on experience .As a result, it has produced a great number of qualified professionals who are willing to dedicate their life to science and education, providing service to repay society and their motherland’s efforts to educate them, most of them were admitted to the graduate schools of such well-known universities as Tsinghua University ,Beijing University and other universities nationwide.

College of Engineering also has the following four Lab Center: Lab Center of Computer Networks, Lab Center of Automation , Experiment Center of Basic Electric Engineering and Lab Center of Electric and Mechanical Engineering, staffed with 29 teaching lab personnel who are responsible for delivery of basic and technical courses ,as well as the lab instruction of the technical courses to both the students of the college and the whole university ,in addition to the instruction of course projects ,practice ,graduation projects of students.

College of Engineering also has three research institutes : Institute of Computer Applications, Institute of Automation and Institute of Mechanical Engineering .Over the past years ,these institutes have attained important achievements in fuzzy control,3-dimensional animation and computer graphics ,computer applications ,measuring ,testing and diagnosis of mechanical engineering equipment ,artificial intelligence ,industrial furnace and rotary kilns, electromagnetic metallurgy and others, having received for many times awards of the first ,second and third classes of technical and scientific progress at provincial and ministerial levels, and have accomplished or are undertaking a dozen of projects of the National “Seventh Five-year Plan “, “Eighth Five-year Plan “and “Ninth Five-year Plan”, as well as the Popularization Projects of “Eighth Five-year Plan” and “Ninth Five-year Plan”, the projects sponsored by the Funds of the Nation Natural sciences and “863” National Key projects ,in addition to other several dozens of contracted projects and projects for research and development of new products.

At present, the institutes have made important breakthroughs in development of digital processing techniques, integration of CAD/CAM, development of power electronic switches, electric vehicles, application of solar energy, and wireless communication of digital data on computes, which have great potential of further development.
